Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi’s much-awaited film “Bhool Chuk Maaf” has finally hit theatres on May 23, 2025. The movie had its share of controversy before release, mainly due to plans to release it directly on OTT platforms. However, theatre distributors strongly opposed this decision.

After legal proceedings, the court ordered the film to be released in cinemas first. The OTT release will now follow after some time.

A Star-Studded Cast

The film features a strong ensemble, including Rajkummar Rao, Wamiqa Gabbi, Sanjay Mishra, Seema Pahwa, and Zakir Hussain, among others. Together, they bring life to this quirky and emotional story filled with drama, romance, and comedy.

Plot Overview: A Familiar but Entertaining Time Loop

Directed by Karan Sharma, Bhool Chuk Maaf is based on the time loop concept, a theme that has already been explored in both Bollywood and Hollywood. A similar storyline was seen in Taapsee Pannu’s 2019 film “Game Over.”

In this movie, Rajkummar Rao plays the character of Ranjan, a man hopelessly in love with Titli (played by Wamiqa Gabbi). Their love is shown as genuine and deep, with both wanting to get married as soon as possible. But there’s a major obstacle: Ranjan is unemployed.

A Twist of Fate and the Quest for a Job

When Ranjan visits Titli’s house to propose, her father, played by Zakir Hussain, gives him a strict condition — Ranjan must secure a government job within two months. The pressure drives Ranjan to try shortcuts, including attempting to bribe his way into a job.

Although the bribery subplot feels weak, the story quickly picks up again with the introduction of the time loop twist, which adds a layer of intrigue and freshness to the narrative.

Performances: Rajkummar Rao Shines Again

Once again, Rajkummar Rao steps into the role of a small-town guy from Uttar Pradesh, a character type he has portrayed many times. While his performance is solid, it’s starting to feel repetitive. His UP-style dialogue delivery and mannerisms have now become predictable.

That said, without Rajkummar Rao, this film may not have worked. His strong acting and excellent comic timing help hold the movie together.

Seema Pahwa, who has shared screen space with Rao in earlier films, delivers a meaningful performance. Sanjay Mishra and Raghubir Yadav add solid support and enhance the film’s comedy elements.

Comedy Done Right

Despite the science-fiction concept, Bhool Chuk Maaf is filled with humorous moments. The writing includes well-timed punchlines and dialogues that entertain audiences across age groups. Whether it’s viewers in single-screen theatres or multiplex audiences, the film manages to connect with everyone.

Whenever the plot starts to feel slow or confusing, director Karan Sharma introduces an interesting twist that brings the film back on track. His ability to balance comedy, emotion, and sci-fi keeps the audience engaged throughout.

Final Thoughts

Bhool Chuk Maaf isn’t a groundbreaking film in terms of story, but it does succeed in delivering light-hearted entertainment with a unique twist. The time loop angle, paired with relatable characters and solid performances, makes it a fun watch for families and youth alike.

While Rajkummar Rao may need to explore new character types, his charm continues to win hearts. Wamiqa Gabbi holds her own, and the supporting cast adds value to this enjoyable comedy-drama.

In the end, Bhool Chuk Maaf is a film that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and that’s exactly why it works.
