What will Kotee do when his family needs one crore rupees? That’s the central question of this Kannada-language thriller, now available in Hindi dubbed on JioCinema.

South Films Now Surprising Viewers on JioCinema

Just like Prime Video, JioCinema has started releasing Hindi-dubbed South Indian movies without prior announcements. One such surprise is the Kannada thriller Kotee, released in 2024 and now streaming for Hindi-speaking audiences.

Directed by debutant Parmeshwar Gundkal, the film is a family drama mixed with suspense and emotional struggle.

The Story: One Honest Man, One Big Problem

The film follows the story of Dhananjay, who plays the role of Kotee, a simple and honest man. For Kotee, earning through illegal ways is equal to committing a sin.

But life takes a turn when his family faces a serious crisis, and he urgently needs one crore rupees. With no easy way out and time running short, he must make a decision that could change everything.

What will Kotee do? Will he cross the line to save his family? That suspense holds the film together — at least in theory.

A Strong Character in a Weak Story

The biggest strength of the film is Kotee’s character, which is portrayed well. His emotional journey and moral dilemma are shown with depth. However, the storytelling fails to grip the audience, especially in the first half.

The screenplay is painfully slow, with repetitive scenes that test the viewer’s patience. It takes too long to build up, and by the time things finally get interesting, most people may already have lost interest.

Final 30 Minutes Save the Film

The last 30 minutes of the film are actually engaging. The suspense increases, and the emotional payoff feels satisfying. Unfortunately, it might be too late for many viewers to reach that point.

The villain’s role is weak and doesn’t add much impact. The background music (BGM) and some action sequences are decent but not enough to lift the entire film.

A Missed Opportunity

Despite having a promising concept, the movie suffers from poor execution. With better direction and tighter editing, Kotee could have been a powerful family thriller.

Still, there’s no adult language or scenes, so it’s safe to watch with family. But prepare yourself for a slow and uneven ride.

Final Verdict

If you have nothing else to watch and already have a JioCinema subscription, you can give Kotee a try — but mostly for its final act.
