Storyline: A Strange New Life
The story follows Uma, a newlywed woman who moves into a cramped room in Mumbai with her husband, Gopal. Life is tough, and it becomes worse when Gopal often disappears for hours, leaving Uma alone and without money.
With some help from her neighbor Sheetal, Uma learns to adjust and even begins cooking. But everything changes after she attends a family wedding. Following a mosquito bite, Uma starts feeling ill. She becomes pale, weak, and soon develops an unusual thirst—a craving for animal blood.
As her transformation deepens, people around her grow fearful. Uma is forced to either embrace her strange new self or risk disappearing completely.
Radhika Apte on Choosing the Role
Radhika Apte, known for taking on bold and experimental roles, was immediately drawn to the script. Speaking about her experience, she shared, “It felt very exciting. It was very honest. Karan wrote exactly what he wanted to make without thinking about the commercial side. There’s little dialogue, so a lot had to be expressed through the body and face.”
She also explained that the film gave her the opportunity to “experiment and try something new.”

Director Karan Kandhari on Working with Radhika
Karan Kandhari spoke warmly about his experience with Radhika. “It was the greatest collaboration I’ve had with any actor,” he said. He added that the performances in the film were focused on instinct and behavior, avoiding intellectual methods. “Everything Uma does is impulsive and present. With Radhika, it was about staying rooted in the moment and reacting naturally,” he explained.
A Unique Genre-Bending Film
Sister Midnight is a rare mix of marital realism, body horror, and dark comedy. It explores themes of female isolation, the weirdness of domestic life, and the hunger for freedom—both physical and emotional. Set against the backdrop of bustling Mumbai, the film captures the surreal and haunting aspects of transformation.
The story blends the ordinary with the bizarre, turning the journey of a housewife into a deeply personal and unsettling transformation.
Don’t Miss It
Sister Midnight promises to be a visually stunning and emotionally powerful film that offers something truly different for Indian audiences. With its international success, bold storyline, and strong performances, it is a must-watch.
