The movie Test is a gripping mix of cricket, suspense, and drama, directed by S. Shashikanth. It is available for streaming on Netflix from April 4, 2025. The film stars R. Madhavan, Nayanthara, and Siddharth. With a runtime of 2 hours and 25 minutes, Test keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

Plot Summary:

The story of Test revolves around three central characters, and their lives are connected through the sport of cricket. The film opens with a tense atmosphere, as Arjun (played by Siddharth), a senior player in the Indian cricket team, watches news reports that his final test match is approaching. Arjun’s form has been poor, and he has not been performing well in recent matches. This is said to be his last chance to prove himself.

Parallel to Arjun’s story is that of Sarvanand (played by R. Madhavan), a scientist working on a cutting-edge hydraulic fuel technology. He has been researching this technology for the last eight years, with the hope that it will lead to vehicles running without the need for petrol or fuel. However, his project is stuck due to a lack of funds. Sarvanand and his childhood friend Kuti have taken a loan of 25 lakh rupees, and they are under pressure to repay it within two days.

The third story in the film follows Sarvanand’s wife, Kumuda (played by Nayanthara), who is struggling with pregnancy and needs 5 lakh rupees for medical treatments. Kumuda was also Arjun’s classmate during their school days.

The film takes a major turn when Arjun’s son, Adi, is kidnapped before Arjun’s final match. This sets the stage for the suspense and drama that unfolds in the second half of the film. The story takes an unexpected twist as the lives of Arjun, Sarvanand, and Kumuda become deeply intertwined.

The Big Twist:

The film’s central mystery revolves around how Arjun’s son is connected to Sarvanand and the larger events. As Arjun tries to save his son, the film mixes cricket with suspense, creating an intriguing narrative that keeps viewers hooked.

Negative Points:

While Siddharth is a talented actor, his performance in Test does not live up to the high expectations set by his previous work, like his iconic role in Rang De Basanti (2006). His character lacks the depth needed to create a lasting impact.

R. Madhavan’s portrayal of Sarvanand, a scientist under immense pressure, does not fully match his usual personality. He appears tired and aged in every scene, which may not be the right fit for his character.

The film’s length, at 2 hours and 25 minutes, feels slightly long. The pacing could have been tightened to make the story more engaging.

Positive Points:

Nayanthara’s performance as Kumuda is one of the highlights of the film. She brings depth and naturalness to her role. Whether it’s portraying her struggles to become a mother or her emotional moments, Nayanthara gives her best.

The movie also addresses an important issue in the life of a cricketer. It shows how the world praises a player when they perform well, but once they start to struggle, the same people quickly turn against them. This brings an emotional layer to the story.

Conclusion:

Cricket is almost a celebration in India, and Test taps into this passion. With the IPL season underway, cricket fans are excited, making this film’s release at the perfect time. Though Test shares some similarities with Bollywood films like Dishoom, the direction and character development by S. Shashikanth make it a standout. Unlike typical action-packed films, Test offers a mix of drama, suspense, and thrilling moments in its second half.

For cricket lovers, Test is a must-watch. It offers an intense, emotional, and gripping experience, making it an exciting addition to Netflix’s collection.
