The Gardener is a Spanish romantic thriller and crime drama series that is now available on Netflix in Hindi. The show has six episodes, each about 45 minutes long. I watched the full series, and here’s my experience in simple words.

Plot Overview

The story revolves around Elmer, a man who doesn’t feel pain, happiness, or even love. He is emotionally numb. But things begin to change as the story moves forward. Elmer is very close to his mother and always listens to her.

Elmer’s mother needs a large amount of money for a personal reason. To earn it, she starts doing a very dark job. If a girl is troubled by a man and wants him gone, she can go to Elmer’s mother, offer her money, and she will get the job done.

Elmer the Contract Killer

Since Elmer has no emotions, his mother asks him to carry out the killings. He does it without hesitation. But the story takes a turn when Elmer is sent to kill a girl — and for the first time, he falls in love.

From here, the show becomes more about emotions and conflict. The first part of the series focuses on crime, while the second half moves into melodrama. The question remains: Will Elmer kill the girl or save her? The suspense is what keeps the show going.

What Stands Out?

The series has six decent episodes. Each one ends with a satisfying conclusion. The story is not too complex and can be predicted at times, but some twists keep you hooked.

The melodrama in the second half is average, and there aren’t many thrilling moments that leave a strong impact. Still, it manages to keep your attention. The production quality, cinematography, and background music are good. The performances by the actors are decent, though not extraordinary.

In my opinion, the story could have been shown in a 2.5-hour movie, but for some reason, it was made into six episodes. At some points, the story does feel a bit dragged.

Final Verdict

If you like contract killing stories, this one might be worth a watch. It doesn’t offer anything new or groundbreaking, but it’s a decent time-pass. Also, the way it ends hints at a possible season two.

Important Note: This show contains many adult scenes, so it’s not suitable for family viewing. Watch it only if you’re comfortable with mature content.
