Netflix released a new web series titled “The Royals” on May 9, 2025, and the name may make you expect a grand, royal drama. However, the experience is quite different. Directed by Neha Sharma, who has worked on shows like Dev Masa, Ziddi Girls, and Little Magician, the series promises romance and comedy but doesn’t completely deliver.

A Star-Studded Cast With Mixed Results

The cast includes several popular names such as Ishaan Khatter, Bhumi Pednekar, Nora Fatehi, Zeenat Aman, Dino Morea, Milind Soman, Chunky Pandey, Lisa Mishra, Sumukhi Suresh, and more. With such a big lineup, expectations were naturally high. The show is produced by Pritish Nandy Communications, known for making stylish content.

The Story: Royals in Trouble

The plot centers around a once-wealthy royal family that is now financially ruined. Things get so bad that their electricity is about to be cut off due to unpaid bills. Enter Bhumi Pednekar’s character, who offers a strange solution: allow outsiders to move into the palace and pay rent, which would help save the estate from collapse.

While the story sounds serious, the show is actually light-hearted and filled with romance. Most of the screen time focuses on the chemistry between Bhumi’s character and the future king. The core question the series builds toward is: Will their love succeed?

Episode Details

The series has a total of 8 episodes, each lasting around 40 to 45 minutes. That’s a decent length for a rom-com drama. With stars like Ishaan Khatter and Zeenat Aman involved, viewers were expecting something rich and impactful. Unfortunately, the show falls short in many areas.

Weak Execution Despite Good Cast

Despite having a talented ensemble, none of the actors manage to truly shine. Even seasoned performers like Zeenat Aman and Bhumi Pednekar seem underutilized. The characters don’t get enough depth, and the storytelling often feels rushed or poorly structured.

Production-wise, the show looks visually appealing, but the writing and direction fail to match the quality of the cast.

Final Verdict

“The Royals” is not a must-watch, especially if you’re expecting a powerful royal drama or intelligent comedy. However, if you’re in the mood for something light and don’t mind predictable romantic storylines, this series could serve as a passable time-killer.

If you’re a casual viewer just looking for light entertainment, this might be worth your time. But if you’re someone who watches content with high expectations or strong storylines in mind, this show will likely leave you disappointed.
