If you’re someone who enjoys watching South Indian films dubbed in Hindi, you may have noticed that streaming platforms like JioCinema (JioHotstar) are quietly releasing them without much promotion. One such release is “Kotee”, a Kannada-language drama-thriller from 2024, now available in Hindi.
A Glimpse Into the Story
The movie follows Dhananjay, who plays the lead role of Kotee, a man known for his honesty and integrity. For him, even a single rupee earned through dishonesty is considered a sin. But life takes a harsh turn when he finds himself in urgent need of ₹1 crore to support his family.
The story revolves around his struggle to arrange this huge amount in a short time. How he navigates this crisis is the central plot of the film. The suspense lies in whether a righteous man like Kotee will take the dark path of crime and accept a contract killing (supari) to save his loved ones.

What Works in the Film
The last 30 minutes of the movie are its strongest part. There’s an emotional build-up and a sense of urgency that finally draws the audience in. The background music and action sequences in these moments are quite impactful.
Kotee’s character is well-crafted, and Dhananjay delivers a convincing performance. His internal conflict, family pressure, and emotional depth are portrayed sincerely.
Where the Film Falls Short
Unfortunately, the film fails to grab attention from the start. The first half is weak, with repetitive scenes and a slow-paced screenplay that struggles to build any momentum. The film lacks engaging storytelling, making it difficult for viewers to stay invested until the end.
Even though the concept of a man being pushed to the edge by financial pressure is powerful, the execution is disappointing. The villain lacks depth, and the conflict doesn’t feel intense enough. Every actor does their part well, but the poor screenplay pulls everything down.
Final Verdict
“Kotee” could have been a gripping thriller with the right storytelling and pace. Sadly, despite a promising concept and a decent climax, the movie doesn’t live up to its potential.
If you already have a JioCinema subscription and have nothing else lined up to watch, you might consider giving it a try — but only for the final half-hour.
