L2: Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, is one of the most anticipated political action thrillers in Malayalam cinema. Set for a grand theatrical release on March 27, the film will be available in Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil.
Mohanlal And Prithviraj Work Without Pay
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Prithviraj Sukumaran shared a surprising revelation—both he and Mohanlal did not take any payment for their roles in L2: Empuraan. He emphasized that every penny was invested into the film’s production to ensure a visually grand experience for the audience.
“Every little penny I have, I wanted to put it into the making of Empuraan. Mohanlal hasn’t taken a single rupee for the film,” Prithviraj stated. He further explained that Mohanlal’s decision to forgo his fee played a crucial role in making this high-budget film possible.

Challenges In Casting International Actors
Prithviraj also revealed that while casting for the film, he initially reached out to actors from the US, UK, and China. Many were interested in being part of an Indian film, but their agents demanded high fees, which was not feasible for a Malayalam film production.
“Even the foreign actors understood. People like Jerome Flynn and Andrea Tivadar acted in Empuraan as a favor,” he added, appreciating their support for the film.
L2: Empuraan’s Production And Star Cast
Unlike other big-budget films that spend excessively on actor remunerations, Prithviraj explained that L2: Empuraan focused on quality storytelling and technical brilliance. The entire team, including technicians and actors, contributed with dedication, believing in the uniqueness of the project.
