Playback singer Kalpana Raghavendar has addressed rumors about her personal life following reports of her suicide attempt. In a video message from the hospital, Kalpana clarified that there were no issues between her and her husband or daughter, as some reports had suggested.
On March 5, Kalpana was found unconscious at her home in Nizampet, Hyderabad. Initial reports speculated that she had attempted suicide due to personal issues with her family. However, in her video message, Kalpana dismissed these rumors as baseless. She explained that the incident was a result of an accidental overdose on sleeping pills, not an intentional act.
Kalpana shared that she had been under significant stress while juggling her PhD, LLB studies, and music career. She mentioned that these stress levels had led to ongoing insomnia issues, which led her to take sleeping pills prescribed by her doctor. On that day, she accidentally took an extra dose, which caused a lung infection, resulting in her unconscious state.

Kalpana expressed gratitude for the support of her husband, Prasad Prabhakar, who was out of town at the time but took quick action by contacting the police, ambulance, and media to ensure her safe rescue. She credited her husband’s efforts as the reason she was able to survive and speak out.
Addressing the false rumors about her family life, Kalpana emphasized that she has no personal issues with her husband or daughter, Daya Prasad. She described her husband as a “blessing” and her daughter as a “responsible, beautiful” person. She urged the public not to believe any of the rumors circulating.
In her message, Kalpana also expressed gratitude toward the police, media, fans, and friends in the music industry for their support. She assured everyone that she would continue to entertain them through her music and promised to return to normal life soon.
On the day of the incident, when Kalpana didn’t respond to her husband’s calls, he alerted the security of their colony, who then contacted the police. The police broke open the kitchen door and rushed her to the hospital, where she was placed on a ventilator. After several hours, Kalpana regained consciousness and is currently receiving treatment.
Kalpana’s daughter, Daya, also addressed the media on March 6, confirming that the incident was a result of an accidental overdose and not a suicide attempt.
Kalpana’s fans are eagerly awaiting her return to her music career, as she vows to continue her journey in both life and music.
