Alia Bhatt recently opened up about the underperformance of her 2024 film Jigra, which was directed by Vasan Bala. Despite receiving praise for her performance, the film failed to connect with audiences and underperformed at the box office. In a candid conversation with Jay Shetty on his podcast, Alia discussed how the film’s performance has inspired her to work even harder.
Alia shared, “I’m a very passionate actor, professional, producer. I’m passionate about that. I have dreams with regard to my work, which I don’t think ever end. I don’t think I’m ever comfortable, and I really like that about my mind. I had a film released last year that didn’t do really well, and that’s given me a new vigour for a new dream to try and do over. It’s something I feel very charged by.”
The actress emphasized that while she was disappointed by Jigra‘s performance, it has only fueled her drive for future projects, adding a renewed sense of determination to her career.

About Jigra
Jigra was produced by Dharma Productions and presented by Viacom18 Studios and Eternal Sunshine Productions. The film, released during Dusshera, was Alia’s solo release in 2024. It tells the story of a devoted sister (played by Alia) on a mission to rescue her brother (Vedang Raina). Despite her strong performance, Jigra became Alia’s lowest opener since her 2014 film Highway, marking a setback in her otherwise successful career.
After the film’s release, controversy surrounded its box office performance. Divya Khossla Kumar accused Alia of manipulating the numbers by purchasing tickets for her own movie and falsely announcing the collection figures.
Alia’s next project will be Love and War, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, where she stars alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal. Fans are excited to see how Alia channels her new vigor into her upcoming roles.
