Capsule Gill has been renamed Mission Ranigaj: The Great Bharat Rescue. Filming will begin in July 2022 and everything is prepared for the theatrical release on October 6, 2023. Mission Raniganj Star Cast
Akshay Kumar plays the titular role as Jaswant Singh Gill in the film while ‘Ishaqzaade’ fame Parineeti Chopra plays the female lead which marks her second pair-up with Akshay Kumar following the 2019 war-period drama film Kesari.
Apart from the Kesari duo, the film also stars Rajesh Sharma, Kumud Mishra, Ravi Kishan, Dibendu Bhattacharya, Anand Mahadevan and Varun Patola in lead roles.
Mission Raniganj Plot
The film is based on the 1989 Raniganj coal mine tragedy. The film is directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, who is best known for directing the 2016 horror film 1920: London starring Sharman Joshi and Meera Chopra.
The film is backed by Jackky Bhagnani and Vashu Bhagnani’s Pooja Entertainment and is being co-produced by Ajay Kapoor. The film’s pre-production has been completed and the team is expected to fly to the UK on June 29th and filming will begin on July 4th.
Who is Jaswant Singh Gill?
Jaswant Singh Gill, whose biopic is set to be made, is an Amritsar-based chief mining engineer who saved the lives of 65 miners at the Raniganj coal mine in West Bengal in 1989. Technology was saved.
After an illustrious career spanning over 33 years, he retired as Executive Director (Safety and Rescue) of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) Dhanbad in 1998.
In November 1991, he was awarded the Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak by Indian President Ramaswamy Venkataraman. A pavement on Majita Road in Punjab is also named after him as ‘Gil L Jaswant Singh Gill Capsule Memorial Chowk”.
