Plot Summary
The story begins in a college where a mysterious tree called the “Virgin Tree” stands in the middle of the campus. Every Valentine’s Day, it becomes a magical spot where lovers make wishes. However, it also has a dark reputation, as several students are believed to have died by suicide near it.
The real twist comes when a heartbroken student named Shantanu (played by Sunny Singh) shares his pain with the tree. Soon after, a spirit named Mohabbat (played by Mouni Roy) enters his life.
To save him, a quirky ghost hunter named Krishna Tripathi (played by Sanjay Dutt) steps in, determined to free Shantanu from the spirit’s grip. What follows is a rollercoaster of spooky events and comic moments. To know how it ends, you’ll have to watch the film in theatres.
Performances and Production Quality
The story mostly revolves around Sunny Singh’s character, and he delivers a decent performance. Palak Tiwari, playing Anya, is fair but not outstanding. The real standout is Mouni Roy as the ghostly Mohabbat, bringing both mystery and emotion to the screen.
But it’s Sanjay Dutt who steals the show. His screen presence adds energy and humor, making the film’s ghost-hunting sequences quite enjoyable.
The direction is solid in parts, though there are some plot holes and forced scenes that weaken the overall execution.
Highlights and Weaknesses
- Positive Aspects:
- Strong background score by Amar Mohile
- Sanjay Dutt’s charismatic performance
- A promising mix of genres
- A unique storyline with an emotional angle
- Negative Aspects:
- Songs lack impact, especially when compared to Stree 2
- Some scenes feel unnecessarily added
- The execution could have been tighter
Final Verdict
If you’re a fan of Sanjay Dutt or Mouni Roy, The Bhootni is worth watching at least once. It delivers a light-hearted horror experience with some fun moments, though it doesn’t reach the level of similar films like Stree or its sequel.
